Afro hairdresser to host hair salon in Basingstoke to support Alopecia Awareness Month

A hair salon specializing in afro hair is hosting a show to raise awareness about hair loss and money for charity.

Aviy’s Hair in Basingstoke hosted the next hair salon in support of Alopecia UK and Alopecia Awareness Month.

The event will take place at the Oakridge Community Center on September 24 from 2-7 p.m.

Avanelle Farfen, owner of Aviy’s Hair, said: “Alopecia UK is a very small charity that is heavily dependent on funding and recently with all the cuts they are struggling to get wigs to those who need them.

“What we want to try to do through this event is to make this subject less taboo, because it’s not something we really talk about. You won’t hear anything about alopecia unless you know someone who suffers from it themselves.

“We will be giving away a personalized wig at the event for a 15-year-old girl from Basingstoke who suffers from alopecia and two baskets will also be given away.”

Tickets to enter are £15 and the event is open to all, with various stations, hairdressing, a education area and a number of different booths and exhibitors.

The hair salon will also showcase the latest Afro and European hairstyles with Q&As from industry experts.
