As colleagues, David Plants and Peyton Hull found working for a corporate hair salon chain to be a frustrating experience.
As co-owners of their own recently opened salon, they thrive in the work they love and hope to be an active member of the community.
Plants and Hull opened Hair Talk in September. The company is located at 893 Henderson Avenue in Canton Canton.
Before becoming business partners, they worked together for five years at Great Clips on Old Mill Boulevard in the Township of South Strabane.
“It was just haircuts. At one point, you do the same thing every day, all day, ”Hull said. “Here we have a little more room to respond to more, to do more. The idea is that we want to offer everything we can offer.
In addition to haircuts for men and women, Hair Talk also offers styling, coloring, waxing, Brazilian brushing and eyelashes.
Plants and Hull also make an effort to use their spa for weddings.
Although it is only them at the moment, they hope to hire additional employees in the future.
Starting a business was a new experience for both of them. They are renting out their current space and have had the interior renovated to meet their needs.
“It was pretty hard. We hadn’t done a lot of office work and promotion, or the price of a plumber, electrician or carpenter, ”Plants said.
Plants and Hull also believe that a business should contribute to the community in which it is based. They said they would like to fundraise, or even sponsor a local youth sports team.
“We have a huge parking lot here, and I’d love to see just a community day with bouncy houses and hot dogs, and just bring the community together,” Plants said.
Hair Talk is open Tuesday through Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday noon to 5 p.m. The company is open on Sundays by appointment only.
