There’s one hairstyle every celebrity wears all the time: loosely textured hair that’s not quite straight, but is more understated than a beach wave. half wave the hair is sticking out and it has already amassed a top notch fan base which includes Hailey Bieber, Kaia Gerber, Jasmine Tookes, Kendall Jenner and Ciara.
“The half wave is casual glam at its finest,” says Jason Collier, A-List hairstylist and Bblonde brand educator. It mixes straight and wavy sections to keep the hair multi-dimensional, a little soft and much cooler. “The half wave consists of a straight root, with a loose wave from the eyelid or earlobe, with loose, relaxed ends,” he explains.
It’s perfect if you want a style that’s a bit more undone and natural – like waking up and rocking your hair, rather than spending the morning styling it. Plus, it’s worn beautifully laid-back, alongside a t-shirt and jeans, or to create a more laid-back, high-rise feel for glamorous occasions, like a wedding…or if you’re Hailey Bieber, the mat red.
As one of the style’s biggest fans, Hailey has made the style her signature and has worn it numerous times for high-profile and off-duty occasions. The clean look matches her approach to (rather) minimal makeup and her bare-but-better approach to glazed donut nails.

But, like no-makeup makeup, there’s behind-the-scenes styling involved to create the casual look, unless you’re already blessed with natural, half-wave textured hair. “To create a half-wave style, use a medium-sized barrel clip and gently wrap large sections around it to create an ‘S’-shaped bend,” Jason explains. “It’s super easy to do,” he adds. But before you grab your tongs, it’s important to pay attention to what you’re leaving out, as well as what bits you’re wiggling. “Take ear length hair and wrap it once in an ‘S’ shape, leaving out the lower lengths. This creates the half wave,” confirms Jason.
