Kids Learn Beauty and Business at Murfreesboro Hair Salon

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WTVF) – Mykke’a Repress always knew she wanted to share her passion for cosmetology with her community, but it wasn’t until she opened Motion 44 hair salon this summer that she finally found the reply.

“We go over hair coloring in order to outsmart, ie base colors, balayage of just about every new trending technique. Then we do the cut,” Repress said. Her students, called “junior beauty artists”, range from 6 to 18 years old.

“This particular group that I have here is really very practical,” said Repress before his Friday night class. “They dive 100%. They pick up super fast.”

The youth education program is called “Mission Prodigy,” where students learn everything from cuts and styles, to makeup and manicures.

Repress said, “So with our professional development, this is where they learn the business side of running a business, how to start a business, how to do business etiquette.”

This includes money management.

“So whenever they want to buy or rent it’s free of course, but if they want to buy or rent nail polish, makeup, whatever else, they have to pay me in play money. so they can get a feel for this is how leasing works, this is how buying works. ”

In an increasingly competitive industry, Repress said providing children with an early education could help them stand out from the crowd. “When they get older and when they go to their respective jobs and even to cosmetology schools or barber schools, they already have experience.”

Classes run from August to May on Mondays and Fridays, culminating in a showcase for the community at the end of the year.
