Ask any professional hairstylist about their background and they’ll tell you that it takes a lot of commitment, creativity and passion to become one. The road is surely not easy, but the journey is much easier now with the collaboration of two leading Indian brands – Streax Professional and The Times Group.
India’s premier talent hunt for professional hairstylists – Streax Professional Times India Hair Style Icon – is a one-of-a-kind competition that brings together professional hairstylists from across the country with an opportunity to showcase their talent and shine in the crowd.
The contest recently concluded its round of North Zone Semi-Finals, announcing two winners.
The Northern Zone Semi-Final of Streax Professional Times India Hair Style Icon 2022
The northern zone semi-final was held in Gurugram on August 20th. It saw thousands of entries from different states including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir. Among these, the 50 best hairdressers were selected for this stage.
The Challenges of the North Zone Semi-Finals Competition
The contestants were divided into three different time slots and had to choose a category from four different types – creative color (women), creative cut and color (male), commercial cut and color (female) and red carpet style.
Each semi-finalist, accompanied by a muse, had to perform within the respective time period and process parameters.
Industry experts and creative icons judged the contest
The judges of the Streax Professional Times India Hair Style Icon 2022 represent a wide range of expertise, and included celebrity stylist Savio John Perreira, designer Leena Singh (of Ashima Leena), celebrity fashion designer Seitu Kumar, designer Nida Mahmood, famed hairstylist Ashmeen Munjal and technical judges from Streax Professional.
Popular fashion stylist Seitu Kumar applauded the initiative to put hairstylists in the spotlight, “It’s great to see a platform that provides such an opportunity for hairstylists, who are usually never focused on a trendy look.”
Ace designer Nida Mahmood agreed with Seitu and called the contest a great way to showcase her creativity through hair: “It’s a fantastic platform because it gives the opportunity to do so much things with the hair. It’s really cool.
And the winners are…
After 12 long hours of outstanding performances from the semi-finalists and a grueling post-event judging, the competition finally got two winners.
Delhi’s Karan Shetty and Uttarakhand’s Mohammad Ali qualified for the final. Both were grateful for the opportunity and expressed their joy at reaching the final. While Karan Shetty thought “it’s a great platform for all hairdressers who want to show off their talent”.
Mohammad Ali shared: “I learned a lot; the team was helpful and the judges were really encouraging. I plan to give my best for the finals now.
Sahil Verma of Punjab and Mohammad Shahrukh of Delhi won the zonal runners-up, each winning a cash prize of Rs 25,000.
The hairdressing contest now heads to Bengaluru for the southern part of the semi-finals, which will be held on August 30. The finale will take place during Bombay Times Fashion Week in Mumbai on October 2. The winner will receive a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh and a trip to attend Paris Fashion Week.
