York’s first children’s hairdressing salon opens – with toys and quirky decor

York is about to have its first children’s hairdressing salon.

Star Street Salon is created in the former Lister Electricals on Poppleton Road by businesswoman Dawn Murphy. It is aimed at children, from babies to teens – and their parents.

“Our goal is to reduce the stress associated with hairdressing appointments”, Dawn said YorkMix. “We want kids and adults alike to look forward to visiting Star Street.

“There will be fun bespoke chairs, funky mirrors and eye-catching decor. IPads and individual toys will be placed at each station to keep them occupied throughout the rendezvous. “

Dawn has two children aged four and seven and came up with the idea after researching kid-friendly hairdressers in York Region.

“A lot of hairdressers have appointments for the kids, but their presence can be a bit awkward for other clienteles who have come for a bit of ‘time for me’.

“It is difficult to entertain children in living rooms and children are often bored in these environments.

“After researching other locations across the country and around the world, I realized there was a market gap in York and this type of location would be very well received.”

They completely gutted the interior of the store, opening up the space into a large room. “We enlisted the services of Thorp Arch’s incredible EPH studios to design and install the interior to replicate a real street with storefronts, signage and a road through the center,” she said. declared.

Star Street Salon will offer haircuts and styling for all ages of children.

Dawn said, “Our goal is to make Star Street the place to be for baby’s first haircut.

“Manicures and pedicures will also be available, and children’s hair, bath and nail products will be available for sale.

“We will also offer haircuts and nail care to adults, who can make an appointment with their child. “
